Civil War Walk

Find out about the siege of Arundel Castle in 1642-43 on a guided walk and talk led by local historian Rosemary Hagedorn.  The walk starts from the History Store in the Mill Road Car Park.  Tickets cost £2.50.

Please note that we can only take 21 people on this walk, so pre-booking is advised.  In the event of a high demand, we will offer an alternative date.

The walk is short, but includes a steep hill and some uneven surfaces.

An new exhibition showing where Roman remains have been found in and around Arundel.  You may be surprised at how much evidence of Roman occupation there is.

Merry Month of May Market

Everyone is welcome at our Spring Market.  It will feature numerous stalls, games, tombola, etc.  And there will be refreshments to sustain you.

Rates for individuals, groups or charities wishing to hire a stall are: Market Stall £30; Inside or Outside Pitch £25; Charities £20.

Also, help is required for the following:

  • Manpower for setting-up, manning stalls, serving coffee, clearing-up, etc.
  • Contributions for the book, bric-a-brac and tombola stalls.

Lunchtime River Trip to Houghton Bridge

The boat will leave from the Boatyard at 12.00noon, and arrive at Houghton Bridge near Amberley Station at about 1.00pm.  You can picnic on the riverbank, or visit the Tea Rooms or the Bridge pub nearby.  The boat will leave Houghton at about 2.00pm, returning to Arundel at about 3.00pm.

£10 for the boat trip. Take a picnic or buy lunch.

Unfortunately this trip has had to be cancelled because of problems with engine of the boat.  Despite their best efforts, Arundel Boatyard was unable to source a replacement boat.

This walk starts at The History Store in Mill Road car park at 11.30am and finishes at the St Mary's Gate Inn at about 1.00pm.  The cost is £2.50 per person for the walk.  Lunch will be available afterwards at the St Mary's Gate Inn at own expense.

Rosemary's History Talkathon

Rosemary is going to tell the story of Arundel from the Iron Age to the 20th Century over eight hours, entirely from memory.

Please support Rosemary to raise money for Arundel's new museum.  We have the site, we have planning permission, we are fundraising like mad - but we need money right now to pay for development work.

  • Get involved by sponsoring Rosemary's Talkathon by the hour.
  • Come and hear the Talkathon at the Priory Playhouse in Arundel on the afternoon and evening of Saturday 5 September.

Fundraising Ideas Meeting

A meeting for everyone who is interested in fundraising to discuss their ideas and explore fundraising avenues.  Fundraising is the most important item on the Museum Society's agenda next year because we need to raise approximately £500,000 in total.  £300,000 of this must be raised by November 2010 to match the £300,000 which has been pledged by Arun District Council.

Please come and support this event.  Tea provided.

This is the first of four short courses on the history of Arundel, and will cover the early development of the town from the Romans through to the 16th century.
